Dyed Blueberry Easter Eggs
This easy to make blueberry dye is the perfect way to get beautiful looking Easter Eggs and they are super fun to make!
Supplies:
- 2 cups Klaassen Farms Frozen Blueberries
- 2 cups water
- 2 teaspoons white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch (optional)
- 1 dozen large white eggs
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 cup flour
- 1/2 cup coconut milk
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 cup Klaassen Farms Blueberries
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 3/4 cup flour
- 1/4 cup butter (melted)
Instructions:
- Bring 2 cups of water and blueberries to a boil on medium to high in a pot for 10 minutes
- Strain out blueberries and set blueberries aside for other baking (great for pancakes)
- Add 2 teaspoons of white vinegar to dye mixture and set aside to cool for 20-30 minutes
- While mixture is cooling place 1 dozen eggs in 1 inch of cold water in a large pot
- Hard boil eggs for 10 minutes on high
- Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes
- Place eggs in an ice water bath for 10 minutes
- Remove eggs from ice water and dip eggs in blueberry dye mixture
- Set aside eggs to dry and repeat dip dying if a darker colour is desired
*Optional – for a more rustic look mix 1 teaspoon cornstarch and 1 teaspoon water to form paste. Use a small paint brush to draw on speckles to dyed eggs once they have air dried*
